the republican ben franklin

limbaugh_mugshot1Just an entertainer? According to a speaker at the Conservative Political Action Committee, Rush Limbaugh is much more than that:

The king of England sat with his advisers, and they read the writings of Ben Franklin. They said, “The colonists will never be successful if they read what he writes.” Just as the king’s successor, who is in the White House, said the other day, that conservatives will never be successful if they listen to Rush Limbaugh. The only way we will be successful is if we listen to Rush Limbaugh!

The echo is deafening.

They do have a lot in common:
    1) Self-made men
    2) Didn’t graduate from college
    3) Support capitalism
    4) Believe in limited government
    5) Got the goat of the ruling elites – Ben through the printed press and Rush through radio.
    6) Dislike over taxation
    7) enjoy good food and drink

  2. Let’s hope you don’t run into Ben Franklin in the afterlife. You’re owed a slap in the face for comparing him to Limbaugh.

I say good day to you sir!

  3. I can just imagine Limbaugh in Paris, ordering freedom fries. And more freedom fries. And even more freedom fries!

  4. never mind that ICAtlanta’s commentary was 100% factual, huh?

your ignorance of this subject is really funny…

but it is a Central Casting Stereotype that Conservatives are uncultured rubes

  5. No, just Limbaugh. I didn’t single out conservatives. Do you really want to make the Limbaugh/Ben Frank comparison?

Did I add that they both like women, but just don’t seem to be too much into normal marriages. Limbaugh did not father an illegitimate child to my knowledge. They have battled health issues – back and ears for Rush, Kidney Stones and Gout for Franklin. Neither attend church on a regular basis to my knowledge, but do believe in God.

They both are unelected voices for American freedom, liberty and capitalism. They both fight for what is right and not popular.

The left of today would be the Tories of the Revolution.

  7. Ben Franklin was an author, printer, satirist, politician, scientist, inventor and diplomat. Rush Limbaugh talks into a microphone for four hours. Franklin invented bifocals and the lightning rod. Limbaugh “invented” talk radio, making him in part responsible for Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Mike Malloy, et al.

You show a tremendous disrepect to a Founding Father by comparing him to Limbaugh.

  8. To DaleC:

I’d be careful about calling someone ignorant when you’re comparing Limbaugh and Franklin. Are you guys fucking serious?

They have a lot in common, but Limbaugh is more along the lines of a Sam Adams or Thomas Paine. There is no one in America today, at least political figure, that is remotely similar to Ben Franklin or could do what he managed to do throughout his life.

  10. I’m referring to your ignorance of Limbaugh. You love to criticize him and lampoon him without really knowing what you are talking about. You have proven that in other posts. You and I are ignorant of many things, but we are not stupid. Remember, ignorance can be cured. One of the reasons I come here is to reduce my ignorance of the Left.

You can compare two things without saying that they are the same, correct? I can compare a new Corvette with my old ones. They are not the same, but have they have enormous similarities. In some ways the new one is better, in other ways not even close.

  11. BTW, comparing Limbaugh to Franklin is no more ludicrous than comparing Obama to Lincoln, which has happened repeatedly in the press. How about this week when we heard how Obama was going to be “Reganeasqe” in his speech. Do you think they are as silly?

They can all be compared, but that doesn’t make Obama the same as Lincoln, not even close.

I realize that you have not made that comparison, just making conversation.

  12. how the hell did I manage to spell “Reaganesque” like that?

  13. Yeah, I remember how Thomas Paine bragged about having talent on loan from God. Limbaugh is an obnoxious showboat who repeats rehashed conservative talking points. Did he invent small government? Were low taxes and a strong national defense his ideas alone?

  14. IC Atlanta

Don’t we all have talent on loan from God?
