Bill Cox’s outfit has fixed its last lawnmower

Sad news — Rick Dial, a memorable character actor without really trying, has passed. Actually, Dial died in May but I just found out about it.

Dial went to school with Billy Bob Thornton, who cast him in his first role, as amiable repairman Bill Cox, in “Sling Blade.” The former furniture store owner would appear in 13 other movies, typically as a good ol’ boy who actually looked and sounded the part. Here he gives the play-by-play as Robert Duvall’s Apostle E.F. brings Thornton’s character to the Lord.

  1. LOVED Rick Dial! He was an understated master. The best. I wish I could channel him.
