Remember these hysterical reactions to the GOP’s proposed budget cuts the next time Nancy Pelosi or Jesse Jackson lecture Americans on the need for civility.
“There is actually a war on women,” [House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi] said Thursday in Washington, taking aim at House Republicans’ efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and restrict access to abortions, among other measures.
“[T]his really is a Civil War fight,” [Jesse] Jackson said. “This is making the federal government dysfunctional on the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
“We are absolutely outraged. This is the functional equivalent of bombing innocent civilians,” [Delegate Eleanor Holmes] Norton, (D-D.C.) said.
Members of Congress will get paid even if there is a government shutdown, which won’t play well with blue-collar voters. Wary of this, the House and Senate have passed separate measures to freeze their salaries. But at least one House member says she can’t afford to support such legislation.
“I have to tell you, I live paycheck to paycheck, like most Americans,” [Rep. Linda Sanchez-D, Calif.] said Thursday afternoon on MSNBC. “It’s very difficult for me to say, ‘Hey, I can give up my paycheck,’ because the reality is, I have financial obligations that I have to meet on a month-to-month basis that doesn’t make it possible for me.”
Unlike most Americans, Sanchez makes $174,000 a year, not to mention the gratis that comes with being a member of Congress.
We asked voters on this poll whether they think interracial marriage should be legal or illegal- 46% of Mississippi Republicans said it should be illegal to just 40% who think it should be legal.
Guess which GOP candidate does best among that 46 percent?
Palin’s net favorability with folks who think interracial marriage should be illegal (+55 at 74/19) is 17 points higher than it is with folks who think interracial marriage should be legal (+38 at 64/26.)
