Sorry, Republicans, but comparing the cost of flying the Gatlin Brothers, Kelsey Grammer and the wife from “Everyone Loves Raymond” to importing Springsteen, Usher and Denzel Washington is hardly fair.

Live, from the inauguration:
Ashford and Simpson, singing “Solid, solid as Barack”. For real.

“A good politician is quite as unthinkable as an honest burglar.” H.L. Mencken
“They’re all crooks.” My grandfather, son of a state representative and brother to two state senators
Of course, Mencken and my grandfather never met Barack Obama.
Better stock up on the frankincense and myrrh.
from the department of irrational exuberance
Andrew Sullivan is to Barack Obama what Hugh Hewitt was to Mitt “The Anchorman” Romney:
All I can say is that, simply on terms of substance, clarity, empathy, style and authority, this has not just been an Obama victory. It has been a wipe-out.It has been about as big a wipe-out as I can remember in a presidential debate. It reminds me of the 1992 Clinton-Perot-Bush debate. I don’t really see how the McCain campaign survives this.
Please. I agree that Obama prevailed, but overall this was the Oakland of debates: there was no there there. I doubt you’ll see any significant movement in the polls.

Strange how adults who act like children (playing video games, reading Harry Potter, etc.) tend to push their children prematurely into adulthood.
Kids should be shielded from politics. They’re too young to be disillusioned.
Watch what happens when immaturity and idealism intersect:
for my republican friends
The Fox of the left, MSNBC, is even less subtle about their lack of objectivity.
After Obama’s speech last Thursday, Keith Olbermann, who’s anchoring the network’s convention coverage, gushed:
“For 42 minutes, not a sour note. And spellbinding in a way usually reserved for works of fiction . . . almost a fully realized, tough, crisp, insistent speech in tone in the sense of cutting through the clutter. I’d love to find something to criticize about it.”
Actually, I don’t think he would.
Olbermann reviewed Palin’s speech thusly:
“People who like this sort of thing will find this… the sort of thing they like.”
Apparently former sportscasters aren’t compelled to be charitable towards their own.
Palin did herself some good tonight, even if you don’t like what she had to say. At least acknowledge that much.
hyperbole du jour
Michelle Obama’s speech was bland and inoffensive, following the tradition set by recent political spouses. She loves her husband, her country and her party. Scintillating!
Yet some pundits felt compelled to gush; Andrew Sullivan damn near compared her to Barbara Jordan, writing:
One of the best, most moving, intimate, rousing, humble, and beautiful speeches I’ve heard from a convention platform.
the guy from the eurythmics copies the guy from black eyed peas
Sigh — another pretentious, overbearing pro-Obama campaign video, this one courtesy of Dave Stewart (the Garfunkel to Annie Lennox’s Simon). Like its predecessors, this pretentious infomercial was filmed in black and white (so you know they’re sincere), with MLK Jr. footage interspersed throughout, which only serves to remind viewers that, promising though he is, Obama is no Martin Luther King.
The celebrity roster is decidedly B-List, featuring the likes of Barry Manilow and Margaret Cho. They all look exceptionally dour and pained, as if their lives really do depend on the outcome of this election. Or maybe they were just trying to mimic Jessica Alba.
Even doughy gossip Perez Hilton turns up, eschewing the standard gay grin for the super-serious progressive grimace. ‘Cause this like matters and all that good stuff.
Rock!
like i was saying …
On Sunday, I predicted:
Now that the MSM has their opening (Obama as “The One”) expect them to hit the Democratic nominee hard, at least for a few weeks. Based on recent evidence, it’ll a corrective overreaction.
From a column in today’s Washington Post by establishment favorite Dana Milbank:
Barack Obama has long been his party’s presumptive nominee. Now he’s becoming its presumptuous nominee.
The backlash brews — not that it isn’t deserved.
good thing i’m not their employer
Serious journalists are skeptics, not cheerleaders:
When Obama walked on stage at the McCormick Center, many journalists in the audience leapt to their feet and applauded enthusiastically after being told not to do so. During a two-minute break halfway through the event, which was broadcast live on CNN, journalists ran to the stage to snap photos of Obama.
Someone should direct them to the nearest P.R. agency.
Embarrassing.
the coming obama backlash
It’s hard to dispute that the MSM has a pro-Obama tilt, for reasons beyond the old “liberal bias” canard.
But with profits disappearing, the media has become very sensitive to what the public perceives (too much so, but that’s another post). The political press also pays close attention to Jon Stewart, who earlier last week observed, “after a quick meet-and-greet with King Abdullah, Obama was off to Israel, where he made a quick stop at the manger in Bethlehem where he was born.”
Now that the MSM has their opening (Obama as “The One”) expect them to hit the Democratic nominee hard, at least for a few weeks. Based on recent evidence, it’ll a corrective overreaction.
Remember when Hillary started complaining about unfair coverage during the latter days of the Democratic primary? “SNL” (a long-acknowledged force within the mainstream press) picked up that meme with a skit lampooning the media’s love affair with Obama.
Suddenly there were reports of a Hillary surge, while pundits began wondering whether Obama could “close the deal.”
This time around expect to see stories about Obama’s overconfidence and McCain’s pluck. Unfortunately for the Republican standard bearer, “SNL” is currently on hiatus.
hyperbole du jour
Barack Obama has considerable potential. He appeals to our better angels. He beat the Clintons. But he’s also a politician, something his more fervent supporters are advised to remember.
“I cried all night. I’m going to be crying for the next four years,” (Jesse Jackson Jr.) said. “What Barack Obama has accomplished is the single most extraordinary event that has occurred in the 232 years of the nation’s political history. … The event itself is so extraordinary that another chapter could be added to the Bible to chronicle its significance.”
“a world without fear”
Hey Black Eyed Peas guy — you want Obama to win? Stop making these insufferable videos. I’m sure Macy Gray appreciates the work, but involving her, Mopey Actor With Chin Stubble, the Hispanic Jim Belushi (George Lopez) and Jessica Alba in the same project begs failure.
Are they shilling for a Messiah or The Gap?
