I lost considerable respect for John McCain when he picked Coach Palin to be his veep. It was naive of me to think that a politician could rise above cynicism.
But I’ll give him credit when due, and at today’s health care summit McCain offered a fairly compelling critique of the unseemly process of health care reform. Sure, his motives were mostly political, but a response was merited. Instead the president was ungracious and evasive.
No doubt it’s personal between the two. Maybe that’s why the showdown made for such good TV.
