"the world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel" Horace Walpole

in other words, the criticism was deserved

Professional victim Carrie Prejean claims she’s been “Palinized” because of her views on gay marriage.

Right-wing reactionaries have adopted the slang adjective for conservatives they claim have been unfairly attacked because of their views. Granted, some of the stories written about Sarah Palin’s family were over the line, but much of the criticism was deserved.

What, for example, was unfair about this question, or the ensuing mockery of Palin’s incoherent non-answer?

COURIC: Why isn’t it better, Governor Palin, to spend $700bn helping middle-class families, who are struggling with healthcare, housing, gas and groceries, allow them to spend more and put more money into the economy instead of helping these big financial institutions that played a role in creating this mess?

PALIN: That’s why I say, I, like every American I’m speaking with, we’re ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the tax payers looking to bail out, but ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping tho— it’s got to be all about job creation too, shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track, so health care reform and reducing taxes and reigning in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as— competitive— scary thing, but one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.

There was no conspiracy to make Palin sound like an idiot. She didn’t need help. And neither does Carrie Prejean, who apparently thinks she should be able to say whatever she wants without being challenged. “Challenging” and “silencing” are two different things, but perhaps I’m expecting too much from a former pageant contestant. That distinction is also lost on her enablers:

HANNITY: “Do you think conservative women are targeted for their views?”

PREJEAN: “Absolutely.”

No one would give two shits what Prejean thinks about gay marriage or anything else had she not lost her crown. Now she seeks to prolong her fame by playing the victim, and the Palinites are more than eager to play along. Their daughters need a role model, after all, even one who filmed a homemade sex tape before her 18th birthday.

I am pretty amazed at how far this woman has gotten under your skin. I guess the PQE would approve of your vendetta, but really, is her position on same sex marriage a big deal? All the attacks against her seem to emerge after she told Perez Hilton that she believes in the traditional definition of the word marriage. And I thought she delivered the answer in a pretty respectful manner.

Should everyone who opposes ssm be subject to such relentless castigation?

I remind you, her position on the issue is the same as Pres. Obama’s. Wouldn’t Obama be a better target for your scorn, rather than an insignificant beauty pageant contestant?

If anything, I’d think you’d save the real anger and vitriol for people like Obama. In your heart of hearts, don’t you think he really supports ssm but opposes it in public because he’d rather not deal with the political fallout? I can’t prove it, of course, but it seems to me like that’s what is going on here.

For the record, I could probably live with it, but I’m dismayed at the demonization of those who aren’t there yet.

  2. Her position against gay marriage has zero to do with my antipathy towards her. I just don’t like people who are superficial, egotistical, stupid, brazenly opportunistic and eager to assume victimhood. I don’t give a shit what positions she holds, I just find her vile.

Malcontent you must hate Obama, Pelosi, Frank, Reed and most of the democratic party because you just accurately described them – particularly Obama & Pelosi.
