ATL malcontent

"you will remember my name. i'm the one who beat you at your game" Aretha Franklin

it’s about to get ugly

Atlanta’s mayoral runoffs tend to get nasty, and odds are the race between Mary Norwood and Kasim Reed will follow that pattern. The smart money is on Reed, who fared much better than expected Tuesday night.

Hate to see a repeat of Maynard Jackson, Bill Campbell and Shirley Franklin combined into one, but that is what we will get with Kasim – same ole same ole piss poor city management. If he wins we deserve the shitty city service and higher taxes coming to us.

Although I don’t doubt it may get nasty during the run-off, I wonder if it would be successful. Norwood received a decent amount of African-American support last night, and the demographics of the city have changed tremendously (gotten whiter) since Campbell’s first term.

  3. How do you know Kasim will be Campbell, Maynard and Shirley wrapped into one? Where’s the evidence that he’s corrupt, or especially thin-skinned? That kind of indictment begs some facts.

  4. IC Atlanta says:

He was Shirley’s campaign manager who was Maynard Jackson’s protege. Also he hasn’t said anything about looking for ways to cut spending or privatize services in the city government ( a la Bill Campbell).

Not corrupt, but would probably govern like the other 3.

The city is not run as efficiently as it could be. Mary Norwood is no Ivan Allen or even Andy Young, but it would be interesting to have a Mayor who is not part of the Atlanta Political Machine.

  5. Norwood’s been on the City Council, Reed’s been in the state Senate. She’s had more to do with the city than he has. Running Franklin’s campaign doesn’t mean he’s Shirley Franklin. I’m not endorsing anyone, but I’m not seeing any factual basis in your argument. By the way, what city services has Mary Norwood suggested be privatized?

  6. IC Atlanta says:

She voted against the large property tax. Kasim Reed is part of the machine and what you see is what you get – Shirley Franklin II.
