tortured logic

WALLACE: So even these cases where they went beyond the specific legal authorization, you’re OK with it?

CHENEY: I am.

John McCain dissents, which is sure to inflame Republicans who’d rather follow the lead of draft dodgers and the morbidly obese. Besides, what would McCain know about torture?

Before responding with Fat Bastard’s talking points, ask yourself how facilitating a new generation of terrorists makes us safer?

No worries now – we will ask them questions nicely, let them rest, eat, pray and smoke. I just hope the responsible parties in this go lite strategy enjoy the consequences of their decisions.

Spoken like someone who did not serve in the military.

So you if you didn’t serve in the military you shouldn’t have an opinion or be allowed to express it – I guess Obama should be quiet then. Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and John Madison should’ve just gone about their business too – along with Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, etc. Just be quiet – agree with all who served and say well they served I didn’t – I will just shut the fuck up and pay my taxes.

There is a big difference to what happened to McCain and how KSM & others were “tortured” the moral outrage is definitely over the top. To compare the two is comparing apples to oranges. If it saves American lives including my wife, my daughter and my family I have no problem with select water boarding. None of our “tortured” prisoners died. Last time I checked 3,000 plus died 9/11. I bet the folks jumping off WTC instead of burning to death were thinking My God I hope our government doesn’t torture the people responsible for this.

Actions have consequences going with kid gloves, the Obama, Eric Holder and John McCain way won’t work with the likes of KSM. I hope those making these decisions enjoy the consequences of their actions.

Yes, those who don’t support Cheney’s policy are just a bunch of pussys who don’t care who lives or dies. Like Ronald Reagan, for instance:

    http://www.gastongazette.com/articles/argued-37493-president-reagan.html

He would get an argument from Ronald Reagan, who signed an international ban on torture, which made no allowances for grave security threats. “No exceptional circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, internal political instability or any other public emergency, may be invoked as a justification of torture,” it says.

Reagan undoubtedly knew what modern conservatives forget — that once you rationalize torture, there is no logical place to stop. If threatening a prisoner with a power drill is permissible, why not drilling holes in him? If choking is OK, why not strangulation? If threatening to kill a detainee’s children passes muster, why not actually killing them? If 30 wall slams don’t do the job, why not 100?

Many modern conservatives, unlike Reagan, are willing to incinerate every civilized principle to avert the possibility of harm — and they think the public agrees. But America is still the home of the brave.
