playing the victim … again

Now Michael Steele (plate in the head) is urging a boycott of David Letterman. As if Sarah Palin accusing him of contributing to the sexual exploitation of minors by older men wasn’t sufficient retribution.

Letterman fucked up. He apologized. End of story.

  1. Whining is what conservatives do. It it is obvious that Letterman was referring to the 18-year-old, not the 14-year-old when he told his joke. Further, if anyone has exploited the Palin children, it is Sarah Palin herself. First, she sacrificed the Bristol’s privacy for the sake if her and John McCain’s campaign objectives and of course there is her constantly parading her kids, including a newborn infant, in front of the public, at rallies, etc, from the time she was chosen as the VP candidate until the race was over.

Finally, it should be pointed out that:
1: Bristol Palin is not a minor and she is not particularly protective of her privacy. See: “Bristol Palin Exposes Her Sometimes Isolated Life” http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20280071,00.html

    2. David Letterman is possibly the only person to give John McCain a serious interview, seemingly not caring if John McCain fired back with his “I was a POW!” defense, when last year he asked him about the relevancy of guilt by association charges as they pertain to his longstanding friendship with convicted felon G. Gordon Liddy.

I suspect that at least part of this feigned “outrage” has to do with Letterman’s treatment of McCain during his final bid for the presidency.

    3) Letterman apologized for his tasteless comments. And, yeah, they were tasteless. Late night talk show hosts make many tasteless comments, some of which I find funny and some less so. Oh, well!

At any rate, both Steele and Palin claim to be very devout Christians (he a Catholic and she some sort of evangelical Christian, as far as I know). I say that if this is really the case and if they don’t want to look like hypocritical liars, they are obliged to accept his apology and to forgive him.

  2. I’ve got no love for Palin, but the jokes about her daughter were out of line, and the apology was insincere. Pretty disappointed with Dave.
