You don’t win rights by denying the rights of others. Bullying those with whom you disagree is un-American. Gay people — especially gay people — know better.
Let’s not rationalize irrationality. At the very least, let’s not supply fodder to the likes of Michelle Malkin.
If we’re going to make comparisons to the Civil Rights movement, we better match their dignity. And — this will get me in trouble — we best realize there are consequences when we don’t.
For example, guys wearing leather jock straps in Pride parades aren’t likely to convince a farmer in Idaho that we’re all equal. Hell, I wouldn’t let a guy wearing a leather jock strap babysit my nephew or niece.
Not because they’re gay; I wouldn’t trust a straight woman who wore a leather jock strap in public, either. That might qualify me as a prude, but it sure as hell doesn’t make me self-loathing.
Just practical.

You are the first that I have read to make the dignity argument when comparing this movement, or any movement, to the Black struggle for equal rights.
I lived on Peachtree for the last four years and viewed my last Pride Parade from my 6th floor perch. I will just say that I agree about leather jock straps (straight or gay), eeeew!
Could you please tell me a bit of the back story to this video. Or maybe give me a link so I can find out more. I looked at the video, and all I saw was a few policeman escorting what looked like homeless people. Oh yes, and some people shouting at them. What was all the shouting about? What were the people doing before they got the police escort?
Bad behavior is bad behavior, no matter which side of what fence the behavers are on.
I should’ve made it more clear — the backstory is found at the link to “denying the rights of others” …
Bascially the people being escorted were the Exodus types, who appear weekly in the Castro. They were chased out of town, which bothers me, as creepy as I find that outfit to be.
You can gohereandthere and learn more about this incident.
Mobs are usually ugly, and this one is no better. On the other hand, maybe Exodus showed poor judgement in going to the Castro with passions running as high as they were. It would not have hurt them to take a couple of weeks off and let things cool off.
[...] escort the JHOP to their vehicles There is plenty of blame to go around for this ugly incident. The video shows the police leading some people away from an angry mob. It makes the mob look ugly, and indeed there seems to be [...]
I had no idea my leather jock-strap was bothering you so much.
