As the American economy goes so goes the rest of the world.

Just ask the rest of the world - we got by fine with Japan's lost decade, the collapse of the ruble in the late '90's and stagnant growth in most of Europe - save Ireland, since the 80's.

The super rich really don't pay taxes anyway. They complain they don't pay enough yet (Buffet, Clinton, Hollywood), but then they don't send in extra money to the govt to make up for what they feel should be their fair share.

America is about to print itself out of super power status and into debtor status - Argentina anyone. Weak / selfish politicians and an ignorant and selfish populous are a toxic mix - see Ancient Rome.

Sorry for your loss at the stock market IC Atl - but don't you think this might have also something to do with the loss in Asia and Europe or do you think that American economy is independent of the rest of the world?
And who created this legend of raising taxes? Where does that come from? At least I never saw anything on Obamas homepage - the only thing is getting rid of the ridiculous tax breaks for rich people and companies that out sources jobs and don't give a shit about the country anyway (To simplify the issue...)
And messiah? Whatever, but definitively no Hitler.

"has Obama ever referred to himself as a messiah?"

not with that particular word, but on June 3, 2008....

"this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal

Hmm, healing the sick, commanding the oceans to recede and our planet to heal.... sounds Messianic to me :-) ... or at least pretty damned arrogant

You do know that, in this environment, there are hardly any capital gains to tax, don't you?

In action yes. I will give him the same chance given to Bush by the left - if you recall Jan - Sept 10 many on the left were stating he is not my president, etc and not just the loons.

Actually I will give him a chance, but the stock market is down 14% since he won. Not a good time to raise capital gains taxes for fairness.

Obama on education:

"I will not allow sort of my predispositions to stand in the way of making sure that our kids can learn. We’re losing several generations of kids and something has to be done."

He's made noise about standing up to the teacher's union. Give him a chance.

Yes, some of his supporters are loons, but has Obama ever referred to himself as a messiah?

Heck I am just glad, like the Obama supporter said two weeks ago, now I don't have to worry about my job, mortgage or paying for gas.

How about the very well known Obama supporter who called him the Messiah and he meant it.

When you set a guy up on this size pedestal and he has yet to begin day one you are setting yourself up for a major disappointment.

I hope he is successful and I hope he has wisdom to do the right thing. However, ending card check and raising taxes is going to make us wish the economy was like today.

Odd that his kids will be going to private schools yet he doesn't support school choice - just another do as I say and not as I do politician.
