the republican blame game
Latinos helped Democrats flip the battleground states of Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Florida.
“Without the Latino vote, we would not have won those states,” said Federico Pena, Denver’s first Hispanic mayor and a national co-chairman of the Obama campaign.
In 2004 George Bush received nearly half the Latino vote. Last week, about two-thirds of Latinos voted for Obama.
I wonder why. Somehow I doubt talk radio, which fueled a hysterical over-reaction to the problem of illegal immigration, will shoulder any blame.

Hysterical over reaction? Wow, enforcing our laws is a “hysterical” over reaction. Amazing. Especially since there had never been ANY reaction to the problem. I wonder what our unemployment rate would be if 25 million illegal aliens went home?
We may find ou soon, it seems that the economy is causing them to “self-deport” already. Perhaps they are leaving to do all those jobs that they heard we shipped overseas?

Enforcing laws was lost in the argument. We winked and looked the other way at illegals for years as they did jobs Americans didn’t want too. Now we’ve changed our mind. The tone of the debate was particularly destructive, and if the GOP keeps losing Hispanics they’re going to have a hell of a time winning elections.

All I heard from the right was;
- secure the border
- enforce current laws
- do nto pass “comprehensive” reform with a short cut to citizenship for lawbreakers
If it was lost in the debate, it was due to the oppostion painting people like me as anti-immigration or bigoted. I am neither. The Left was especially effective at convincing Latinos the Right is against them, just as they have convinced Blacks of the same. This despite the fact that their would be no Emancipation Proclomation or Voting Rights Act without Republicans. Democrats were the party that said of 60’s segregation.
I sincerely WANT every person who wants to come here to do so. This assumes they follow the law in immigrating and that they come here with no ill will to America. Without securing the border, identifying immigrants and enforcing the laws, that is an impossibility.
