What about you and Ferris Bueller?

I’ve always sorta liked Ben Stein, but his comments about the Mark Foley scandal are beyond the pale (whatever the hell that cliche means):

Media_httpatlmalconte_egxmj

We have a Republican man in Congress who sent e-mails to teenage boys asking them what they were wearing, and an entire party, the Democrats, whose primary constituency, besides the teachers’ unions, is homosexual men and lesbian women. I hope it won’t come as a surprise to anyone that a big part of male homosexual behavior is interest in young boys.

Pretty clear what he’s saying here — homosexuality and pedophilia are intertwined. But in Stein’s defense, he claims his “very best friend is gay. I have many gay friends and they are great people.” Yep, some of my best friends are pedophiles …

Dennis Hastert, meet Bernard Law

Remember the Boston archbishop who covered up repeated incidents of child molestation by Catholic priests?

In 2001, pages were warned to be careful with Foley.

In 2005, one page complained to his congressman about "sick" e-mails from Foley, a complaint passed on to the Speaker’s staff.

Then this past spring, the complaint was again raised with three Republican leaders, including Hastert himself.Dennishastert

The House Speaker told CNN "I just don’t recall" being told about Foley’s indiscretions. Yeah, I can see how one would forget being told about a colleague’s interest in young boys.

Now there’s suspicion that Foley might have acted on his lurid fantasies.

The FBI’s preliminary investigation is focusing on evidence that Foley, using the screen name Maf54, actually sought to meet with the pages in order to solicit sex.

In one message, he wrote: I would drive a few miles for a hot stud like you.

And then: I miss you lots since san diego.

And: I want to see you

And it gets worse — Foley might not be the only one in Congress trolling for pages:

A former senior Republican official in Congress says Foley was one of a handful of members and staff whose behavior with pages was being closely watched.

“How’s my favorite young stud doing?”

A clever YouTube send-up of Mark Foley, featuring a cameo by Eric Cartman.

And here’s an alleged transcript, via The Huffington Post, of the former congressman’s online conversation with an underage boy:

Maf54 (7:53:54 PM): do you really do it face down

[redacted screenname] (7:54:03 PM): ya

Maf54 (7:54:13 PM): kneeling

[redacted screenname] (7:54:31 PM): well i dont use my hand…i use the bed itself

Maf54 (7:54:31 PM): where do you unload it

[redacted screenname] (7:54:36 PM): towel

Truth in labeling

“Conservative” and “liberal” do not apply here. If you believe the Bush administration

Media_httpatlmalconte_cijsf

is telling the truth about Iraq, you’re delusional. The evidence is beyond conclusive. Not because Bob Woodward said it, or Jack Murtha, or Colin Powell. It’s documented. And documents don’t lie, unlike a certain overmatched president.

(I could say the same about those who think Clinton did everything in his power to capture Bin Laden, but I’ve gone there enough.)

Sophistication alert

From a Jewish Anti-Defamation League press release regarding the upcoming film “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” likely to be the most politically incorrect mainstream flick since 1974′s “Blazing Saddles” –

“We are concerned, however, that one serious pitfall is that the audience may not always be sophisticated enough to get the joke, and that some may even find it reinforcing their bigotry.”
